1976 Franklin Mint Bicentennial 24k Gold Lined Sterling Silver 165 oz Bowl # 243. The Bicentennial Bowl is an original work of art created on the occasion of our nation's Bicentennial in 1976 to commemorate 200 years of American Independence. It is believed to be largest and heaviest commemorative silver bowl ever issued in the United States. Circling the bowl is a masterfully sculptured frieze presenting the dramatic sweep of our nation's 200-year-history - from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the celebration of the Bicentennial. Scenes are shown portraying the great migrations westward, the ordeal of the Civil War, the crossing of the continent by rail, the marvelous age of invention and the triumph of man's first landing on the moon. The frieze, measuring over 43 inches, is the most extensive single work ever undertaken by the sculptor of The Franklin Mint.

The first bowl, bearing serial number 1, was presented to President Gerald R. Ford - for the people of the United States - at Bicentennial ceremonies in Philadelphia on July 4, 1976. The bowl measures 14 inches in diameter and 7 inches in height. It was issued in limited edition of 750 and is serially numbered.

The bowl contains approximately 165 troy ounces of pure sterling silver and is lined with pure 24 karat gold. It is missing any and all paperwork, the number was etched by hand on the bottom by it's original owner.
