The 1974 Franklin Mint Gallery of Great Americans Medals. This is a collection of 12 medals honoring distinguished Americans. The gallery is made up of Statesmen, Explorers, Inventors, Scientists, Educators, Social Leaders, Business Leaders, Writers, Artists, Actors, Athletes and Military Heros.
The medals are made of Sterling Silver, measure 39mm in diameter and struck in a proof finish, featuring mirror-like fields. Total weight of the set is 9.8 troy ounces, with each medal encapsulated in a protective plastic shell.
The condition of the medals is flawless with no marks or toning. Exactly like the day it was issued. The medals reside in a thick dark blue cardboard frame and are housed in a hard-shell slip-in case. The set also comes with a reference book on the Statesmen and a letter of Authenticity. A very attractive collection and one that is hard to find.
The mintage of this set was 1,489 at the time of issue and much fewer exist today. See my many other listings for proof sets, coins, medals, medal sets, commemorative ingots, and Franklin Mint collectables.
